Root Canal Treatment in Pune

A root canal doesn't have to be painful. With digital X-rays and modern anesthesia, most patients tell us it felt no worse than getting a filling. We save your natural tooth instead of pulling it out.

What is a root canal?

Inside every tooth, there's soft tissue called pulp — it contains nerves and blood vessels. When this pulp gets infected (usually from a deep cavity or a crack), it causes pain. Sometimes severe pain.

A root canal removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, fills it with a biocompatible material, and seals it with a crown. The tooth stays in your mouth, looks normal, and works normally. You just don't feel temperature sensitivity in that tooth anymore.

The alternative? Extraction. Which means a gap in your teeth, bone loss over time, and eventually needing an implant or bridge that costs 5-10x more. A root canal saves you money and keeps your natural tooth.

Signs you might need a root canal

  • 1

    Persistent toothache

Pain that doesn't go away with painkillers, especially at night or when lying down.

  • 2

    Sensitivity to hot or cold

Sharp pain when drinking chai or eating ice cream that lingers for more than a few seconds.

  • 3

    Swollen or tender gums

Swelling near a specific tooth, sometimes with a small bump (abscess) on the gum.

  • 4

    Darkened tooth

A tooth that's turned gray or dark compared to the ones next to it.

  • 5

    Pain when chewing

Sharp pain when you bite down on food, especially on one side.

Having one or more of these symptoms doesn't guarantee you need a root canal — but it means you should get checked. The earlier we catch it, the simpler the treatment.

How we do it — step by step

1

Digital X-ray

We take a digital X-ray to see the infection clearly. Less radiation than traditional X-rays, instant results on screen.

2

Local anesthesia

We numb the area completely. You won't feel pain during the procedure — just some pressure.

3

Access & cleaning

We open the tooth, remove the infected pulp, and clean the canals thoroughly with antiseptic solution.

4

Filling the canals

The cleaned canals are filled with gutta-percha (a rubber-like material) and sealed.

5

Crown placement

After a week of healing, we place a custom crown over the tooth to protect it. The crown matches your other teeth in color and shape.

After your root canal

Mild soreness for 2-3 days is normal — over-the-counter painkillers handle it. Avoid chewing on that side until the crown is placed. Most patients go back to work the same day.

With the crown on, a root canal-treated tooth can last a lifetime. Brush and floss normally. Come for your regular 6-month checkup so we can keep an eye on it.

Common questions about root canal

Does a root canal hurt?

Honestly? Most patients say it's less painful than the toothache that brought them in. We use modern anesthesia — you'll feel pressure but not pain. If you're anxious, tell us. We go at your pace.

How many sittings does it take?

Usually 1-2 sittings. Simple cases are done in one visit (about 45 minutes). If there's a severe infection, we may need a second sitting after a week of antibiotics.

Is extraction better than root canal?

Almost never. A root canal saves your natural tooth. Extraction creates a gap that needs an implant (₹25,000+) or bridge later. Root canal + crown costs less and keeps your original tooth.

How long does a root canal last?

With a proper crown and regular checkups, a root canal-treated tooth can last 15-20 years or even a lifetime. The key is getting the crown done — don't skip it.

Can I eat normally after?

Soft food for 2-3 days after the procedure. Once the crown is placed (about a week later), you can eat everything normally — including hard foods.

What's the cost of root canal in Pune?

At Smile Care, root canal treatment starts at ₹3,500 per tooth. The crown is separate (₹4,000-8,000 depending on material). We offer 0% EMI options for treatments above ₹5,000.
