After surgery — what to expect

Swelling peaks at 48 hours, then gradually reduces. Ice packs help. We prescribe painkillers and antibiotics — take them as directed, don't skip doses.

Soft food for 3-5 days: dal, khichdi, curd, mashed potatoes. Avoid hot food, spicy food, and using a straw (suction can dislodge the blood clot). No smoking for at least 72 hours.

We schedule a follow-up visit after 7 days to check healing and remove stitches if placed. Most patients are back to normal eating within a week.

Common questions

Do I need to get my wisdom teeth removed?

Not always. If they've erupted fully and aren't causing problems, they can stay. But if they're impacted, partially erupted, causing pain, or pushing other teeth — removal is recommended before they cause bigger issues.

How painful is wisdom tooth removal?

During the procedure — zero pain (local anesthesia). After — moderate soreness for 2-3 days, managed with prescribed painkillers. Most patients say it was much less painful than they feared.

Can I go to work the next day?

For simple extractions, yes. For surgical extractions (impacted wisdom teeth), we recommend 1-2 days rest. Swelling and mild discomfort may affect your comfort at work.

What if I'm scared of surgery?

Tell us. We go at your pace, explain every step, and can use additional sedation if needed. Many of our surgery patients say the anxiety beforehand was worse than the actual procedure.

Wisdom tooth pain?

Don't wait for it to get infected. An X-ray tells us exactly what's happening — takes 5 minutes.
